Icarus

Icarus is a street drug best known for the two times it hit the streets of Gotham – once recently, once six years prior. Also known as The Ick, it is taken by injection, and it’s a dangerous and expensive high. Too great a dose can cause the user to spontaneously combust.

It’s not clear exactly how, but it appears that Icarus is made from the blood of humans who have been exposed to large doses of radiation and somehow survived. Due the elaborate precautions necessary to make it, it’s hard to see how anyone makes a profit dealing it.

Origin: Icarus by Francis Manapul and Brian Buccelato, from his Detective Comics series.
